that information for a couple of very important reasons. Since
these three primary
chords form the foundation of a given key (in our case, C Major) they
are likely to present themselves often. As a matter of fact, there are
many tunes that have been written which consist of only these three
chords! In addition, once you get yourself to feel comfortable with applying the concepts we will be covering to these very important primary chords - that I, IV, and V (in our case, the Cmaj, Fmaj, and Gmaj), applying these ideas to other chords becomes much easier. Let's take a look at a few measures of another song which uses these I, IV, and V chords. Here you see this simplified excerpt from the very popular Beatles song Hey Jude by John Lennon and Paul McCartney song in lead sheet format: (Again, I would like to point out here that if you are playing piano "by ear" without reading music notation, you will still benefit from this material. The audio animation sessions will help you tremendously) ![]() There are many interesting ways we could approach this song, using the "right hand chord melody" concept. The great thing about mastering this wonderful technique is the more it becomes a part of you, the more freedom will experience when it comes to bringing out your own creativity!
