Right Hand Chord Piano

Dave, your coach I suggest that you have some familiarity with the following if you are to proceed:

  • Know the names of the keys on your keyboard
  • Have some familiarity with these major triads (three-note chords): Cmaj, Fmaj, Gmaj
  • A familiarity with the notes contained in the C Major scale

Is that really all you need to know? In order to take advantage of the material in this program, yes.

My demonstrations here utilize the key of C Major with an emphasis on the above three chords because:

1) I strongly feel that people at a beginning level of playing who aspire to add interest to their playing have no reason to not dive in and start exploring how to do so with this minimal amount of experience

2) I realize that players who have more knowledge than this minimal requirement will find it easy to grasp onto the concepts here and will be able to use them to their advantage, including applying what they learn to other keys as well.

I make use of the treble clef (G-clef) staff in my illustrations for those who will find the associations between the keyboard and staff helpful; however, it should be noted here that if you are currently playing without reading music, this program will serve you well.

I will mention here that a familiarity with major, minor, augmented, and diminished chords - whether this familiarity is possessed now or is attained in the future - will lead one to taking the insights he or she is about to gain to new heights.
