Frequently
Asked Questions
I am not really familiar with many chords. Will I benefit from this program? This program has been designed so that you can take advantage of its concepts even if you know only three chords. The three chords used for this program's presentation are: C Major, F Major, and G Major. In the "Updates" section, the material will go beyond this scope as it becomes available. Keep in mind that, whatever level you are at, you can apply the techniques demonstrated making only slight adaptations. Why do you only use three chords in your presentation? My 30+ years of coaching people on piano has confimed for me the truth that you don't have to know everything about everything in order to achieve results you can feel good about. In the case of piano styling, there is often the misconception that one must be "advanced" in order to learn how to enjoy chord piano in a creative fashion. This simply is not true because that would be equivalent to saying that one could not write a story unless his or her vocabulary was outstanding. The three chords used in the program - C Major, F Major, and G Major - are generally among the first chords learned by most students, whether trained formally or on their own, so a person who is confident with only this amount of knowledge can indeed begin enjoying being creative. I should further note that there are many, many songs that were written with just these three chords! This is good news, considering the fact that this program was created with the idea in mind that participants will apply these concepts to musical situations beyond the scope of the program... this is the ultimate purpose of its creation. I am a more advanced player with an extensive knowledge of many different chords. Can this program benefit me? The "right hand chord piano" approach is one with which many players never acquaint themselves. If it is a new style of playing for you, the simple techniqes and strategies here can absolutely be adapted to your level Actually, you will have more choices available to you, since you are familiar playing within the context of seventh chords, etc. That said, although the presentation may seem "elementary" in nature to you due to the simplicity of the chords used, you can use your more extensive background in your favor. In addition, this is an idea that beginners should keep in mind as well. You see, the more experience you gain playing chords and building your chord vocabulary, the more you will be able to take what you are learning to higher levels. This will really get you to start harmonizing those melodies of yours with confidence! I am not familiar with how to play "inversions" of chords. Will this program help? Absolutely. The inversions to the chords in this program are presented and explained thoroughly. I don't know how to read music. Should I bother with this program? The concept of "right hand chord piano" is used by reading as well as non-reading pianists. Although excerpts of a few songs are used for illustration for those who do read, keep in mind that the "audio animation" videos show what keys are being played. This is quite helpful when it comes to assimilating the material. In addition, the "right hand chord piano" style is all in how you play, not what you read. Also, the luxury of being able to stop, pause, and "rewind" the videos really makes for easy learning. You mentioned "updates"... are these something I will have to pay more for? The "Updates" section will be a special area that will grow with additional learning material for the purpose of reaffirming what has been learned and taking it to another level. Since you invested in the program, you will have continuous access to all these updates. That sounds good. Any suggestions for gaining the maximum benefit from this program? Yes. The presentations are provided to familiarize yourself with concepts. It is up to you to apply them to other musical scenarios... in other words, incorporate what you are learning into your favorite songs that you already play so that you reinforce what you are learning and exercise your right to express yourself! Remember, the major purpose of this program is to get you to be independent of it. If you simply play the examples shown and don't take it further, you will be missing out on the rewards intended. This is not like a traditional method reading book where you learn one page, move on, learn another page, and consider it finished and accomplished once you reach the end. You see, learning the concepts is one accomplishment, but what follows as you personalize what you learn is far more rewarding. Grasp this and you will maximize your benefits from involvement with this program. So apply what I am learning to other songs I enjoy playing. That makes sense and surely is why I am taking advantage of this today. Do you have any program where you offer additional help with these techniques? There is much that can be done on your own once you get a handle on this material. That said, I do offer personal coaching, yes.
